Event Summary: On a warm, cloudy morning (but
no rain!), over 325 runners & walkers towed the line for
the start of the 5K events at Village of West Clay, in Carmel
IN. A new, free Kiddie Romp event was an opportunity for many
future runners & walkers to have a fun event for youngsters
& their parents! There was pizza, yogurt, and fresh fruit
at the finish line for all participants.

verse to celebrate a loved ones who have touched their spirit

Spirit Run, 5K Run and Family Walk

Summary: On
a beautiful morning, about 345 runners & walkers started
at 9am the 5K run and Family Walk of the Spirit Run from the
center of the Village of West Clay. The beautiful neighborhood
created a real small-town feel to this fun event.
Beneficiaries: IPS School #54, Brooke's Place,
and University High School.
Uniqueness of Event: The
traditional "Spirit Banner" was on-site for participants
to sign with the names of people who's spirit have made a difference
in their lives. Participants
were encouraged to wear special "Spirit Tags" during
the event with names of those special spirits. A full band from
University High School played up to the start, and filled the
morning air with music. During the race, a flutist played soothing
authentic American Indian music. At the end, emotional testimonies
as to the value of taking the time to acknowledge the spirit
of others were offered, and special ceramic awards were given
to age-group winners. There was "Brunch at the Village",
with plenty of ice cream, pizza, apples, and drink for everyone.

Management Examples

Coates
has many years of community and sporting event experience, managing
and directing local, regional, and national events. He has created
and managed many event systems, recruited and trained many volunteer
committees and partner groups, recruited and facilitated
sponsor involvement, and participated in many media roles (interviews,
press conferences, etc). This 25+ years of experience comes
from working for the Indiana Sports Corporation, the Amateur
Athletic Union, the Ohio Sports Festival, the Pan Am Games,
Indy Parks, Indiana University, Indy Runners and Tuxedo Brothers.

On a cloudy & cool day, there were over 75 participants
in the National Orienteering Day meet. There were 4 courses,
with a very challenging Blue (advanced) course complimenting
the orange (intermediate), yellow & white (beginners) courses.
Special thanks to Jim Kramer, assistant meet director, and Linda
Pfohl, Scott Belmar, Pam Taylor, Kristie Stewart, and Gary Hite
who all helped !
