Team Navigation!™ Course Offerings:
• Beginner Class I (Day Navigation)
• Beginner Class II (Day & Night Navigation)
Location: Eagle Creek Park, Indianapolis
Timeframe: 4-5 hours (Day-Night Nav Class invovling approx
2 hours of night navigation)
For: Beginning Adventure Racers, backpackers, hikers, hunters
Maps: Detailed Orienteering Map (1:5,000 scale)
Format: Discussion, explanation of maps, beginner & intermediate
navigation skills, reading & moving with the map, measuring
distances, using the map & compass together, common navigation errors.
We spend 3-4 hours actually navigating in the woods in
teams, with frequent debriefing about route choice strategies.
Cost: $65/person (class includes color
maps, clue sheets, punch cards, pre-set O-course, lots
of handouts, snacks, water)
Schedule: Upon Request (minimum of 4, maximum of 12)--pick
a preferred date, & contact Jeff Coates

Location: Morgan Monroe State Forest
Timeframe: 4-5 hours (Day-Night Nav Class invovling approx 2 hours of night navigation)
Previous Experience: Some previous navigation experience is required
Maps: USGS (1:24,000 scale)
Format: This course starts with a brief overview of beginner navigation skills
(quiz), & then quickly move into more intermediate navigation skills: Team
Navigation Roles, Route Choice Principles, Common Navigation Errors, Relocation & Recovery,
UTM plotting, Intermediate Compass Use, etc.. Class starts with a group discussion
at a shelter, & then spend at least 2-3 hours navigating in daylight, and
in the Night Nav Class up to 2 hours navigating at night. Clinic will involve
coached instruction & shadowing, actual UTM coordinate plotting, ample opportunity
for lead navigation experience for those interested, & lots of Q & A.
Good clinic for adventure race training.
Cost: $70/person (class includes color maps, clue sheets, UTM plotting template & lots
of handouts)
