Why Corporate Teambuilding
Western societies today focus on the “bottom-line” in business. There is much focus on the tasks necessary to produce the expected results. To produce goods and/or services in this competitive work environment demands a high level of integration of competencies, technologies, and personalities in the work team. Once again the Western society focus is more on the immediate return, often with an approach that “the end justifies the means.” Yet research has shown that often times the process is just as important as the outcome.

Research has shown the most productive groups or teams of employees are the most satisfied and motivated and who tend to be the most collaborative. This says bottom-line productivity is influenced by a high levels of motivation, innovation and competence. It is being demonstrated that happy employees are productive employees. Organizations who have satisfied employees have a higher degree of productivity and a lower employee turnover, thereby reducing costs.

Synergistic teamwork in an organization does not just happen. When assignments designate a group of people to work together, there is no guarantee that high levels of production and outcomes will automatically happen. The integrative relationships between team members are critical to the long-term success of the team.

Much as personal relationships, or even automobiles, need ongoing maintenance, so do team relationships. Taking the time to talk about the “who” of the team, and “how” the team is to operate, can be a short-term investment that can result in higher job satisfaction and improved long-term performance and outcomes.
