Who We Are
Chief Adventurer
Jeff Coates is the owner and founder of TrueNorth and Associates. He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, and founded this life-adventure organization as part of a life-long dream in 2000. Even though he lives in a land-locked, no-altitude, mid-western state, he is passionate about living life’s adventures, despite life’s challenges! His spirit is fun, upbeat, adventurous, and collaborative by nature. He lives a simple, principled lifestyle, and attempts to inspire others to live-out their own adventures of life!

By striving to follow a life-compass rooted in principled-centered behavior, despite life’s challenges, Coates wanted to create a company whose business practices are rooted in his moral compass. He balances an appreciation for detail, with a desire to see and understand the opportunities of the big picture of life.

Associates & Partners & Collaboration
TrueNorth contracts many part-time associates and partners for various TrueNorth events. We also look to collaborate to work with other organizations, by combining resources to achieve common goals. See the Associates tab for examples.

Principle-Centered Roots
The name of TrueNorth is rooted in the life philosophy of Jeff Coates. Just as a magnetic compass can help to navigate through the unknowns of a wilderness, a moral compass can help navigate through the challenges of life, both personally and professionally. Coates attempts for his moral compass to be centered in a spiritual character and conduct rooted in a daily walk with God. That daily character walk incurs regular challenges from others, just as the magnetic needle can bounce-around before it finally rests in the direction of the true magnetic north.

These are examples of life-principles that help guide those choices:

  • life has meaning
  • keeping priorities in focus
  • maintaining healthy relationships
  • integrity
  • maintaining personal health
  • contributing to community
  • empowering others
  • abundance versus scarcity
  • appreciating others
  • taking responsibility
  • power of genuine thanks & apologies
  • sense of humor
  • stepping out of comfort zone
  • family
  • personal accountability
  • living within financial means
